MSA British Endurance Kart Championship Round 2

Team ZLK repeated their successful start to the British Endurance Kart Championship, by winning round 2 at Bayford Meadows on Saturday, but had to work much harder for victory. Five different teams headed the leader board during the four hour race, before they took the flag just 5.9 secs ahead of their nearest rivals.

Fastest qualifiers SZR 2, were underweight, and demoted to the back of the grid of 23 teams for the start. Thus ZLK inherited pole position, which they held for the opening laps, until deposed by MS Lucas and Autotekk as the first of five compulsory fuel stops approached. Father and son team Autotekk, took the lead, and attempted to build a gap by leaving their first stop late. SZR 2 were rapidly recovering from their penalty, and hauled themselves into contention in 5th place by their first fuel stop. Pipe ASM, who had qualified 3rd, suffered a puncture within 8 laps of the start, dropping them to last place.

At the hour mark MS Lucas led from ZLK, then came the improving Titan Motorsport, Autotekk and Screamin' Soco. There were major problems for Toshiba, who had an engine change, Team Tec with an electrical fault, and Startrite who had carburation problems from the outset.

Titan then headed the field, but by halfway ZLK were once again dominant, with Autotekk and Screamin' Soco in hot pursuit.Despite brake problems, which had lost them the lead, MS Lucas were still 4th, and Cobra ASM led the Clubman class in 9th overall. Then ZLK developed a misfire, allowing Autotekk and Screamin' Soco to sweep past. These three then swapped the lead as ZLK's misfire went away as quickly as it had appeared. Behind them B&R, SZR 2, and MS Lucas made up the top six.

An hour left to run and just 10 seconds separated the top three, Screamin' Soco with their nose in front. The 5th and last fuel stops came and went, and ZLK once more emerged in front of Autotekk, to hold on for the last 30 minutes, just staving off the rapidly closing Screamin' Soco.
